Pune: Dr Apoorva Palkar Appointed As First Vice-Chancellor Of Maharashtra State Skills University
Pune, 28th July 2022: Dr Apoorva Palkar has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Maharashtra State Skills University. The state Ministry of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation issued an order in this regard on Wednesday (July 27).
Dr Palkar is currently working as the Director of the Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Dr Palkar graduated in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. She has been teaching and conducting research in the field of business administration for more than two decades.
She was also active as the head of the committee that conducted the All India Entrance Examination for Management Science courses. Even in the education committees established by the state government, Dr Palkar is involved. As the Chief Executive Officer of Sakal International Learning Center, Dr Palkar had seen the work. It was during this time that she received the prestigious Ravi J Mathai National Fellowship Award. This selection has been made for the next two years.
In 2017, the then Union Minister of State for Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Rajvi Pratap Rudhi announced the establishment of the country’s first Skill University in Maharashtra. The Skilled Universities Act, pending since then, was enacted on April 14, 2021. Finally, this university has received its first Vice-Chancellor in the form of Dr Palkar.
Maharashtra State Skill University (Publicly-Funded) has been established in the state to provide integrated, holistic skill training to the youth of the state and to make them employable through nationally, internationally recognised skill-based higher education.
Considering the large network of industrial groups and huge employment opportunities in Maharashtra, it was necessary to establish a public skill university in the state. The purpose of the establishment of a skill university is to create technical capability and various skilled manpower as per the demand of industries.
