Pune: Dr. Shashikala Shirgopikar’s Musical Journey Explored in New Documentary ‘Notes Unsung’

Pune, 3rd April 2023: Dr Shashikala Shirgopikar has been tirelessly working for the past forty years to bring the meaning of ghazals to non-Urdu speaking audiences through her Ghazal presentations.

A documentary based on her musical journey, “Notes Unsung,” premiered on April 2nd at the Devang Mehta Auditorium in the presence of several senior artists and dignitaries.

Renowned classical singer Pandit Raghunandan Panshikar was the Chief Guest. He recounted anecdotes from the time when he and Dr. Shashikala were learning classical music from celebrated singer Kishori Amonkarji. He concluded his address by singing a sher from a ghazal.

Abhijit Kolhatkar, Founder and CEO of Reverb Studios, emphasized the importance of having a “digital presence” for every artist to reach a global audience. Shilpa Godbole, the director of the film, shared the concept and the challenges faced during the film’s production.

Ex-MLA and music enthusiast Ulhasdada Pawar was a guest of honor and stressed the importance of noting and documenting the contributions of artists such as Dr. Shashikala Shirgopikar for the enrichment and preservation of our cultural heritage.

Several senior artists, including Anuradha Marathe, Meera Panshikar, Madhuvanti Dandekar, Manasi Magikar, and Gautam Murdeshwar, were also present. Other dignitaries included Pandit Keshav Ginde, who holds three world records for his invention of a flute that can play four octaves, Dr. V.D. Ranade, a senior botany professor, production designer Siddharth Tatooskar, Kaushal Shah, CEO of Accord Equipments, and art lover and businessman Sureshchandra Suratwala and Kiran Deshpande.
