Pune: Electricity Supply Crisis in Hinjawadi, Maan, Marunji, Megapolis; Repairs Underway

Pune, 29th March 2025: A breakdown in MahaTransco’s 220 KV Pirangut-Hinjawadi-1 extra-high voltage underground power line on Friday (March 28) at around 7 pm led to a power shortfall of 100 MW in the region. While MahaTransco and MSEDCL have managed to supply power through load management, officials have warned that load shedding may be implemented in Hinjawadi Phase 2, Megapolis, Maan, and Marunji if the electricity shortfall of 40 MW cannot be balanced during peak hours.
The breakdown occurred in the Hinjawadi area, but the exact cause is yet to be determined. The affected power line supplies 100 MW of electricity, primarily catering to about 15,000 consumers in Hinjawadi Phase 2, Megapolis, and 200 IT industries. With the rising summer demand, managing the power load remains a challenge.
“If load balancing of 40 MW is not possible during peak hours, we may have to implement rotational load shedding in affected areas over the next 24 hours,” an official said.
MahaTransco has assured that industries and residents in these areas are being informed about the situation through social media and mobile SMS alerts to minimize disruptions.
Repair work on the damaged underground power line began on Saturday (March 29) morning. The team is currently inspecting the power line by excavating the affected section and will proceed with necessary repairs, including providing joint reinforcements.
Officials estimate that the restoration process could take anywhere between 12 to 24 hours, depending on the complexity of the damage. Efforts are being made to complete the work swiftly to avoid major inconvenience to consumers.
