Pune: Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident Shocks Pimpri Chinchwad: Woman Dies, Son Critical After Collision

Chikhali, 25th April 2024: A hit-and-run case has emerged in Pimpri Chinchwad, resulting in the tragic death of a woman and severe injuries to her son. On Wednesday (April 24th), around 8:50 am, near City Pride School in Chikhali, a Tata truck collided with an electric two-wheeler scooter.

Vaibhav Agarkar, aged 26 and residing in Warje, complained to the Chikhali Police Station regarding this incident. The deceased, identified as Jayashri Pankaj Khope, aged 30 and a resident of Chikhali, and her injured son, Aarush, have been identified as victims. Chikhali Police have filed a complaint against the unidentified driver of the Tata truck.

According to police reports, the complainant’s maternal cousin was riding an Ola electric bike to drop her son off at school when the incident occurred. At that time, a Tata truck with registration number MH 12 LT 9907 was speeding towards Alandi, driving recklessly and without regard for traffic rules. The truck collided with the Ola two-wheeler and fled the scene without stopping. Both occupants of the two-wheeler sustained severe injuries, with the cousin of the complainant, Jayashri, succumbing to her injuries, while his nephew and Jayashri’s son, Aarush, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Chikhali police have registered a case against the truck driver with registration number MH 12 LT 9907 under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), and relevant sections of The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. Sub-Inspector of Police Mulik from Chikhali Police Station is leading the investigation into this matter.
