Pune FDA Seizes 3,800 Kg Adulterated Mango Pulp in Maval, Khed Raids
Pune, 10th April 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Pune has confiscated more than 3,800 kg of suspected adulterated mango pulp during raids conducted in Maval and Khed talukas.
The action was initiated following a tip-off, prompting FDA officials to inspect a manufacturing unit in Maval. During the inspection, the team found that mango pulp was allegedly being prepared using unauthorised food colouring agents and other adulterants.
Authorities collected six samples for detailed laboratory testing, including mango pulp, raw mangoes, and ingredients such as sugar, milk, and a liquid saffron colouring solution used in the process. Given the perishable nature of the stock, approximately 3,282.9 kg of mango pulp, valued at around Rs 1.61 lakh, was seized and destroyed at the site.
Further investigation led the team to another unit in Khed taluka, which was reportedly sourcing pulp from the Maval-based facility. During this follow-up inspection, officials seized an additional 558 kg of mango pulp worth Rs 61,380.
FDA officials have appealed to citizens to stay alert and report any suspected cases of food adulteration through the toll-free helpline.
D.V. Bhogawade, Joint Commissioner (Food), Pune division, said strict monitoring is being carried out to safeguard public health. He warned that operating a food business without a valid licence can attract penalties of up to Rs 10 lakh under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
