Pune: Five Arrested For Abducting Businessman For Extortion

Pune 2nd Oct 2023: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested five people for abducting a businessman and demanding extortion from him. The police have also launched search for two more accused in the case. The incident was reported on September 22 in Ekta Nagar area of Chakan.

According to police, the victim businessman identified as Sanjay Kurundwad was abducted while he was going home from workshop. The accused took him to a secluded place and demanded Rs 1 Crore extortion. They further took Rs 20,000 cash kept in his bag and he was only allowed to go after the businessman assured to pay Rs 12 lakh in the next two days.

The victim informed about the incident to his friends and relatives after the accused kept calling and threatening him for extortion money on the next day. A case under relevant sections was registered at Chakan Police Station and the police team laid a trap after the accused called him for extortion on the next day.

The accused asked the victim to come to Nanekarwadi to pay money and as he reached there they asked him to drop the bag full of cash in the dust bin there. The police team was already deployed in the area and they apprehended a person identified as Akash Vinayak Bhure (24) who has come to pick the cash. During further investigation, the police arrested four more people identified as Shubham lias Sonya Vinod Kakde, Shubham Yuvraj Sarvade, Ajay Nandu Hole and Navnath Shantaram Bachche. Two more accused whose involvement has been revealed have been booked in the case and the police have launched a search for them.

It was revealed that all five accused arrested in the case have previous criminal record. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
