Pimpri, 20th October 2023: Five out of the seven swimming pools that were temporarily closed following a chlorine gas leak incident at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar swimming pool in Kasarwadi have now been reopened to the public, according to Mininath Dandavate, Deputy Commissioner of the Sports Department of the Municipal Corporation.

The chlorine gas leak incident had caused concern among the community, affecting several individuals, though fortunately, no severe injuries were reported. In response to the incident, all seven swimming pools in the PCMC area were temporarily closed to citizens. To ensure the safety of these water bodies, a comprehensive inspection of the water purification systems was conducted, and any identified errors were rectified.

One significant change has been the shift from using chlorine gas for water purification to chlorine powder. This modification has improved the safety of the water treatment process. Subsequently, the Sports Department, upon receiving positive water test reports, has decided to reopen the swimming pools to the public.

On Monday, October 16, five swimming pools located in Pimple Gurav, Pimpri village, Sambhajinagar, Wadmukhwadi, and Nehrunagar were among the first to be reopened. The swimming pool in Kasarwadi, which serves as a benchmark for water quality, has since undergone testing.

Thanks to the clean water test results, the reopening of the Kasarwadi swimming pool was postponed from Tuesday to Thursday. However, the water in the Keshavnagar swimming pool remains muddy, prompting authorities to schedule its reopening for Saturday.
