Pune: Five Two-Wheeler Riders Killed in Separate Road Accidents Across City
Pune, 1st August 2026: Five two-wheeler riders, including an 80-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, have lost their lives in separate road accidents reported from different parts of Pune over the past few weeks, raising fresh concerns over road safety in the city, where motorcycles and scooters remain the primary mode of transport for thousands of commuters.
One of the victims, Ravindra Anant Joshi (80), a resident of Anandnagar on Sinhagad Road, succumbed to injuries after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding car on Tilak Road. The accident occurred around 8:30 am on July 16 while he was travelling through the area. Following a complaint filed by his son, Rohit Joshi, Vishrambaug Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police Sub-Inspector Bhandare is handling the probe.
In another incident, Vivek Vinod Moharir (44) died after a speeding four-wheeler rammed into his motorcycle near Kudje village on the Uttamnagar–Khadakwasla Road on July 29. The complaint was lodged by his wife, Sheetal Moharir, at Uttamnagar Police Station. Assistant Police Inspector Palwe is investigating the case.
A separate accident in the Khadakwasla area claimed the life of Mohammad Gulzar Siddiqui (47), a resident of Uttamnagar. According to police, Siddiqui’s motorcycle was struck by another speeding motorcycle on a narrow road near a crematorium on the night of July 24. His cousin, Sikandar Shafi Siddiqui, approached Nanded City Police Station, following which a case was registered. Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Bhapkar is conducting the investigation.
In the Nahe area, Sumit Rajesh Rathod (17) was killed after his motorcycle was hit by another vehicle on July 11. Based on a complaint filed by his mother, Anasuya Rathod, Nahe Police registered a case against the vehicle driver as well as the person who allegedly allowed the minor to ride the motorcycle. Police Sub-Inspector Shirkule is investigating the matter.
In another fatal crash, Anil Laxman Waghmare (45), a resident of Gandhinagar in Pimpri, lost his life after his motorcycle was hit by a heavy vehicle at Bopodi Chowk on the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway on July 16. His wife, Sushila Waghmare, filed a complaint with Khadki Police Station. A case has been registered against the heavy vehicle driver, and Police Sub-Inspector Galphade is leading the investigation.
Police have registered cases in all five incidents and are investigating the circumstances leading to each accident. The recent fatalities have once again brought attention to road safety concerns in Pune, with authorities urging motorists to follow traffic rules and drive responsibly to prevent further loss of life.
