Pune: Former Minister Anil Deshmukh Claims Parambir Singh Masterminded Antilia Explosives Case
Pune, 22nd May 2023: Anil Deshmukh, former Maharashtra home minister, has alleged that Parambir Singh, the former Mumbai Police commissioner, was the mastermind behind the explosives planted outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia building. Deshmukh claimed that Singh was used by the opposition to falsely implicate him, leading to his 14-month incarceration.
Deshmukh made these assertions during a press interaction in Pune yesterday, his first visit to the city since his release on bail.
According to Deshmukh, during Singh’s tenure as commissioner, no one outside the office of the Mumbai Police Commissioner was involved in the Antilia blast case. He stated that gelatin was planted by four individuals, using an Innova car belonging to the Police Commissioner’s office.
Deshmukh pointed out that Sachin Waje, the investigating officer in the case, was responsible for handling the gelatin. He further revealed that Singh was transferred to a lower post due to the ongoing investigations into the Antilia and Mansukh Hiren death cases. Deshmukh believes that Singh, fueled by anger and influenced by political figures, attempted to ensnare him with false accusations.
Commenting on the court’s decision, Deshmukh emphasized that the allegations of Rs 100 crore against him were baseless and lacked evidence. Despite repeated summonses by Justice Chandiwal, Singh failed to appear in court, ultimately resulting in an arrest warrant being issued against him. Only then did Singh assure the court that there was no evidence against Deshmukh, leading to his release on bail.
However, Deshmukh raised concerns about the suspension of Parambir Singh, alleging that the Central Administrative Authority (CAT) repeatedly sought a report from the state government but failed to take appropriate action. Deshmukh viewed this as a form of reward given to Singh by the state government.
Singh himself faces serious charges, including extortion and abuse of power, with eight to ten cases registered against him across the state. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in its chargesheet on the Antilia case, has identified Singh as a key participant. Deshmukh expressed disappointment that despite Singh’s involvement in the Antilia case, the court had withdrawn his protection without taking any action against him.
Deshmukh suggested the presence of an “invisible political force” behind Parambir Singh, claiming that this force manipulated Singh to falsely accuse him. Deshmukh criticized the state government’s failure to report to the CAT and its unilateral decision to revoke Singh’s suspension, viewing it as a reward for Singh’s role in the false accusations.
