Pune: Four Members Of A Family Dead As Car Falls Into River Near Panshet Dam

Panshet, 2 April 2021: In a tragic incident, a woman and her three daughters died after their car slipped into the Khadakwasla dam backwater (Mutha river) on Friday afternoon. The incident took place near Kuran Phata on Pune-Panshet Road.
The deceased persons have been identified as Alpana Vitthal Bhikule (45), her daughters Prajakta (12), Pranita (17), and Vaidehi (8). Her husband Vitthal Keshav Bhikule (50) survived the incident.
According to police, the incident took place around 4 pm when the Bhikule family was returning home located in Chavan Nagar of Dhankawdi area in Pune city. The family had gone to visit their native village Vihir in Velhe taluka of Pune district.
Bhikule was driving the car when he lost balance near a turn at Kuran Phata and their Santro car veered into the river.
The local villagers informed the Pune rural police and PMRDA fire brigade regarding the accident. A team of Velhe police station and fire brigade reached the spot fished out the four bodies with the help of villagers. Bhikule was rescued, informed PMRDA fire brigade chief Devendra Potphode.
