Pune: Four Policemen Punished For Giving Apple, Upma To Accused In Lockup

Pune, March 2, 2021: Four policemen have been fined for giving an apple and Upma to the accused person in police custody for breakfast. They were deployed to guard the murder accused in lockup.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Sagar Patil has issued order to impose a fine of Rs 2000 each on Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandrasekhar Digambar Khatri, Constables Subhash Jagtap, Sadashiv Shankar Gujle and Maruti Gengje. Accused Ganesh Kruhe was arrested in a murder case and lodged at the lockup at Bundgarden police station on October 10 last year.

The incident came to light when DCP Patil checked the CCTV footage of the lockup. There was no order from the court to give apple or Upma to the accused. Apart from that, there were no written or oral orders from senior officers. Still, the accused was seen eating breakfast brought from a private place in the lockup.

The policemen were therefore issued a notice for gross misconduct and now they have been fined Rs 2000 each.
