Pune, 6th May 2024: Residents eagerly anticipate the opening of the underpass linking Keshav Nagar and Amanora Park Town, a project that has been completed but awaits inauguration due to adherence to the model code of conduct during elections. The delay has resulted in significant frustration among the public, exacerbated by the ensuing traffic congestion and subsequent disruptions.

Despite the underpass’s construction being finalized, its operational debut is postponed until after the elections. Consequently, commuters grapple with major delays and bottlenecks at key points such as Mundhwa Chowk and the railway crossing en route to Amanora Park Town, Hadapsar, and Magarpatta, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.

The ongoing traffic snarls present a daily challenge for commuters traversing this crucial artery, affecting their schedules and necessitating meticulous planning to navigate the congestion, exacerbated by the sweltering heat.

Residents attribute the delays to a purported disagreement between the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). While the underpass construction falls under PMRDA’s purview, PMC’s jurisdiction extends to the approaching roads. However, unresolved land acquisition issues have stymied progress, leaving commuters with limited exit options, notably the one-way passage through the railway crossing. As a result, manoeuvring through the area, particularly during peak traffic hours, has become increasingly arduous.
