Pune: Gang Attacks Students in Pimpri Chinchwad for Watching Reels and Laughing

Reported By Varad Bhatkhande
Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th February 2025: Beware while watching reels and laughing openly, as some people might take offence and start attacking you. This is exactly what happened in Pimpri Chinchwad’s Sant Tukaram Nagar, where two boys were watching reels, enjoying themselves and laughing when they were beaten up. A group of 5-6 people standing nearby approached the boys, asked what was happening and why they were laughing, and then directly slapped one of them. The two boys started retaliating, and the other 4-5 members of the group joined in.
The incident happened around 10:30 AM on 25th February in Rohan Heights Housing Society, very near Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre. Siddhesh Bajrang Salvi (age 21, student) filed a complaint at Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station. The police have arrested Aman Ajim Shaikh (age 22), Siddharth Raju Waghmare (a minor), and registered a case against Wasim Syed, Hanjala Qureshi, and 3-4 other unidentified individuals.
According to police reports, complainant Salvi and his friend Soham Ajay Mahapure were drinking cold drinks near Rohan Heights and watching reels on Instagram. Watching a funny reel and laughing cost the duo when one of the group members approached them, asked why they were laughing and slapped Salvi. When Salvi tried to retaliate, the group started beating him and his friend with kicks, punches, steel stools, plastic chairs, and whatever they could find. They claimed to be the “dons of Pimpri Chinchwad,” asking, “Don’t you know us?” Both friends were injured in this incident.
Sant Tukaram Police are investigating the matter further. Senior Police Inspector Gorakh Kumbhar told Punekar News, “The incident happened on February 25th at around 10:30 PM. The fight started because two friends were watching reels and laughing, which angered others who then started beating them. We have detained three individuals, one of whom is a minor. The search for others is ongoing.”
