Pune: Gas Supply Disruption Threatens 8,000 MSMEs in Pimpri-Chinchwad Industrial Area

Pimpri, 11th March 2026: Ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States have begun impacting industries in India, disrupting supply chains and pushing small manufacturers into a crisis, said Sandeep Belasare, president of the Pimpri Chinchwad Small Industries Association.

Addressing a press conference in Pimpri on Wednesday, Belsare said the conflict in the Gulf region has severely affected the availability of industrial gas and key raw materials, creating major challenges for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). He urged the Central and State governments to intervene urgently and ensure a smooth supply of industrial gas, warning that many small units may be forced to shut down if the situation continues.

Belsare said industries are facing multiple problems due to the conflict, including a sharp rise in raw material prices, delays in imports and exports, and disruption in logistics. Several consignments of finished and raw materials meant for export are reportedly stuck at ports, while imports of metals such as aluminium, copper and brass are also facing delays, leading to shortages.

Pimpri Chinchwad Small Industries Association vice president Sanjay Jagtap demanded that the government allocate a reserved quota of gas for industries to protect both entrepreneurs and workers.

Association secretary Jayant Kad said the organisation is appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take immediate steps to stabilise the supply of fuel and gas. He said the uncertainty in gas imports from Gulf countries has already led to a rise in prices and reduced availability of industrial gas in several areas.

Director Sanjay Satav said the supply of gas required for industrial use has either been drastically reduced or stopped in some places. Various industries rely on gas-based fuels such as LPG for processes like fabrication, powder coating and CD coating. With the supply disrupted, nearly 7,000 to 8,000 micro, small and medium enterprises in the Pimpri-Chinchwad industrial belt are suffering losses worth crores of rupees every day, he said.

The disruption has significantly affected industrial production, as many manufacturers are unable to complete orders on time. Rising input costs and supply shortages are further increasing the financial burden on small businesses.

Several small industries in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Talegaon, Chakan and Ranjangaon depend heavily on large automobile companies such as Bajaj, Mahindra and Thermax for business. According to the association, many small entrepreneurs are still recovering from earlier challenges including GST compliance issues, demonetisation, inflation, the COVID-19 lockdown period, bank loans and pending instalments.

The association urged both the Central and Maharashtra governments to urgently resolve the industrial gas supply crisis arising from the conflict in the Gulf region. If immediate measures are not taken, Belasare warned, small entrepreneurs may have no option but to shut down their factories.
