Pune: Ghat Areas Record Highest Rainfall in 24 Hours

Pune, 30th June 2023: Pune witnessed heavy rainfall in the surrounding regions on Thursday, with several talukas in the district experiencing continuous downpours. Over the past few days, Pune, along with the entire state, has been receiving consistent rainfall.

In the last 24 hours, the Tamhini Ghat area in Pune recorded the highest rainfall, measuring 142 mm. Dongarwadi area received 130 mm of rainfall, while Dhanwadi area recorded 113 mm.

According to the Meteorological Department, Lavasa received 89 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Nimgiri recorded 57.5 mm, Lonavala 89 mm, Pashan 7 mm, Shivajinagar 5.9 mm, Vadgaonsheri 3.5 mm, Hadapsar 4 mm, and Talegaon 17.5 mm.

As rainfall increases in the ghat areas, the dam’s water storage has also seen a rise. Moreover, the intensity of rain is expected to escalate in Pune city over the next few hours, with the possibility of moderate to heavy downpours. Residents are advised to exercise caution as road flooding is likely to occur.

The weather department has also recommended to avoid visiting adjacent ghat areas in the coming days due to strong gusty winds accompanying heavy rainfall. These winds have the potential to uproot trees. The weather department has issued a warning, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
