Kothrud, 27th September 2025: In a major development, the Pune Police have revealed that notorious gangster Nilesh Ghaywal has fled the country, possibly to London, even as investigations intensify following a recent shooting incident linked to his gang. A lookout notice has been issued against Ghaywal in an effort to prevent any further international movement.

The shocking revelation emerged during the ongoing police investigation into a violent attack that occurred near the Kothrud Police Station on September 17, where Prakash Madhukar Dhumal, a young man, was seriously injured in a shooting allegedly carried out by members of the Ghaywal gang.

Soon after this incident, members of the same gang reportedly attacked another youth with a crowbar, also in Kothrud, due to an old personal dispute. Both incidents have been registered at the Kothrud Police Station.

Five Gang Members Arrested
Following swift action, the police arrested five individuals believed to be closely associated with the Ghaywal gang. The arrested accused have been identified as:
Mayur Gulab Kumbre (29)
Anand Anil Chandlekar (24)
Ganesh Satish Raut (32)
Mayank alias Monty Vijay Vyas (30)
Dinesh Ram Pathak (28)
(All are residents of Kothrud.)

Search operations are currently underway to trace other absconding gang members.

MCOCA Action Initiated
In response to the rising threat posed by the gang, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against Nilesh Ghaywal and ten of his associates. The action was taken to dismantle what authorities describe as an organized criminal network operating in the city.

However, during the course of the investigation, it came to light that Ghaywal had already left India, possibly before formal proceedings began. Authorities suspect he may have fled to London, and surveillance efforts are ongoing to track his location.

“Nilesh Ghaywal has fled abroad. Action is being taken against him as per the legal process. The police are monitoring his location and movements. He will be arrested as soon as he returns to India,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam.

Security Intensified in Kothrud
In light of recent events, police presence in and around Kothrud has been significantly increased, with heightened patrolling and surveillance in gang-affected areas to prevent further violence or retaliation.
