Pune, 14th March 2026: The academic future of hundreds of students from Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital has been secured after months of disruption caused by a strike by teachers and staff. The state government has decided to shift the affected students to other private unaided dental colleges across Maharashtra.

According to a Government Resolution issued by the Medical Education and Drugs Department on March 12, students pursuing undergraduate (BDS), postgraduate (MDS) courses and internships at the college will be transferred to 24 other private unaided dental colleges in the state.

The decision has brought major relief to students who had been worried about their academic future for several months. The affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College for the academic year 2026–27 has already been cancelled by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences due to academic disruptions at the institution.

Considering the academic uncertainty and potential loss to students, the university had earlier proposed to the Dental Council of India that the students be shifted to other colleges. Based on this proposal, the state government has now directed that students be allocated to other institutions according to their merit and preferences.

The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences will act as the competent authority to carry out the student allocation process.

The government has also clarified that students will continue to receive the same fee reimbursement and scholarship benefits they were entitled to at the time of their original admission. Additionally, the receiving colleges will not be allowed to charge any extra fees from the transferred students, and the university will not charge any fee for conducting the allocation process.

With this decision, the academic year of the affected students has been safeguarded. The process of allocating colleges to these students is expected to begin soon through the university’s official website.
