Pune : Govt declares holiday in all schools, colleges on Monday due to rains

Pune, August 4, 2019 : Due to heavy rains since Saturday, all schools and colleges in Pune district have been asked to remain closed on Monday ir August 5.

After Pune district collector Naval Kishore Ram declared holiday for all schools in Pune district will be closed on Monday, the authorities from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) also issued notice stating that all colleges affiliated to SPPU in Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar will remain closed on Monday.

The state government’s education department has authorised all district collectors in Maharashtra, to take decision of declaring holidays based on situations in their respective areas.

In Pune, many low lying areas along Mula, Mutha, Pavana and Indrayani rivers due to heavy discharge of water from various dams as they have become full to the capacity.

The municipal corporation and other bodies have shifted hundreds of people from their homes to nearby schools. The situation is getting worse with continuous rains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more rains in the state till August 6.
