Hinjewadi 26th Sept 2023: In a shocking incident reported in Hinjewadi, a gram panchayat member has been booked for allegedly tearing down the nomination form of another member of the gram panchayat for the post of sarpanch election. A Mandal Adhikari of the area has lodged a complaint with police in the matter.

According to the complaint registered with police, the accused allegedly forcefully took the nomination form of a gram panchayat member Ganesh Bansilal Jambhulkar who had applied for the sarpanch post from the mandal adhikari during the scuitiny. The accused while taking the nomination form claimed that he had an objection on the form and later tore it down. Jambhulkar later won the election of Sarpanch, said officials.

It may be noted that the villagers had decided to give every member of the gram panchayat a chance to serve as the sarpanch and three months were given to each member following a mutual understanding between all the elected members in 2021. However, the formal process was being followed while some villagers had objected to the move claiming that it obstructs the development of the village

A case under sections 253 and 186 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Mayur Rajendra Sakhare at Hinjewadi Police Station. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
