Pune: Guidelines Released For Celebration Of Gudi Padwa, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Birth Anniversary; Ban On Crowding, Rallies

Pune, 12th April 2021: Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has issued guidelines for celebrating Gudi Padwa (April 13) and the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (April 14).

The guidelines are as follows:

  • Citizens requested to celebrate between 7 am to 6 pm with not more than five people gathering at a place at the same time.
  • In order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, Palkhi, Rallies, Prabhat Feri, Bike Rally and Procession should not be organized on the occasion of Gudi Padwa. Instead, the festival should be celebrated in a very simple manner by erecting a homemade Gudi in a public place without gathering more than 5 persons at a time (by following Social Distancing) and wearing mask.
  • Prabhat Feri, rallies, processions should not be taken out on 14th April. Also, a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue or image of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar should be done in presence of 5 people following the orders/guidelines issued from time to time by the Government of Maharashtra and Municipal Corporation.
  • While celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Powada in a public place, lectures, songs, plays or other cultural events  should be broadcast online or through cable networks to prevent gathering of people.
  • On the occasion of Gudi Padwa and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Birth Anniversary health-related camps (e.g. blood donation) should be given priority to be organized with the prior permission of Pune Municipal Corporation.
