Pune: HDFC Bank Officer Arrested For Stealing Gold From Lockers; Gold, Cash Worth Rs 40 Lakh Recovered

Pune, January 23, 2021: The officials from Deccan Gymkhana police station, Pune City Police, have arrested an assistant manager of HDFC Bank’s Apte Road branch for allegedly stealing about one kg gold ornaments of people from the lockers. Her brother-in-law who helped in selling those ornaments has also been arrested.

The arrested have been identified as assistant manager Kiran Dhotre (24), a resident of Model Colony and her brother-in-law Deepak Dhawale (32), a resident of Alandi. Police have recovered 770 grams of gold and Rs 8 lakh in cash from them.

The incident took place on January 8, 2021, at HDFC Bank on Apte Road. The bank had conducted an internal inquiry into the matter and found that 994.603 gm gold worth Rs 40.63 lakh were missing from the lockers. Kiran was responsible for keeping a record of the strong room where mortgaged gold ornaments were kept.

After the bank lodged a complaint with the Deccan police, Kiran was arrested and she informed about Dhawale from whose house cops seized 770.18 gm gold ornaments worth Rs 32.09 lakh. He had sold remaining gold to a jeweller and police have seized Rs eight lakh cash from him.

The action was taken by a team under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (West region) Sanjay Shinde, DCP (Zone 1) Priyanka Narnawre, ACP (Vishrambaug division) Malojirao Patil and Senior Police Inspector Murlidhar Karpe. The team included Police Inspector (crime) Sanjay Mogle, Assistant Inspectors of Police Shilpa Lambe and Babasaheb Zarekar, PSI Kishore Shinde and police personnel Rakesh Gujar, Sanjay Shinde, Dhodopant Panchal, Anjushri Arde, Santosh Waghmode, Sarla Tajne, Balasaheb Bhangle, Shekhar Shinde and Sharad Gore.
