Pune: Health Department Conducts Survey For Measles, Preventive Measures Initiated

Pune, 29th November 2022: Under the Measles preventive measures, health department teams surveyed densely populated areas of Kondhwa, Bhawani Peth, Yerwada and Ambegaon. Although the report of the survey has not yet been received by the municipal administration, according to preliminary information, not a single suspected case of measles has been detected in the survey.

 

Measles outbreaks have been reported in Bhiwandi, Mumbai and Malegaon in the state. In this regard, the health department of the municipal corporation has started implementing preventive measures in Pune. Under that, a survey of densely populated areas has been started. Teams of health department officials have been formed for this. In the first phase, surveys were conducted at Kondhwa, Bhawani Peth, Yerawada and Ambegaon. 125 suspected measles patients have been found in the city since January. Their samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing.

 

 

Meanwhile, the survey report is yet to be received. But according to the preliminary information, no suspected patient has been found. Immediate measles-rubella vaccination is essential to prevent measles. For this, children are being vaccinated regularly in the municipal maternity hospital. Vaccination sessions are being organized twice a week in the outpatient department of the Municipal Hospital and once in Anganwadis. Similarly, vaccination campaigns have been undertaken for children at construction sites, at-risk and high-risk areas and on streets. The health department has prioritized increasing vaccination in orphanages and religious places through social organizations.
