Last week, a 10-member expert committee formed by the state government submitted its recommendations on the facility’s design and service.

In addition to Covid-19 and H1N1, the new hospital will be fully equipped to quarantine, isolate and treat patients with even more dangerous infectious diseases such as Ebola, Cremean Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD, or monkey fever), Nipah, Zika and other emerging illnesses of global importance.

The earlier plan was to set up the infectious disease hospital on the ESIS hospital premises in Aundh just close to the state-run civil hospital or district hospital. The upcoming facility will relieve the strain on Naidu hospital, which is currently the only infectious diseases hospital functional in Pune.
