Pune, 30th March 2026: The Talegaon Dabhade police have registered a case against the members of a housing society including chairman, secretary and some individuals linked to a private lift maintenance agency for alleged negligence in connection with the death of a 33-year-old resident.

The incident occurred on December 6, 2025, at Nisarga housing society, located in Talegain Dabhade where Dinesh Surange sustained critical injuries after he was trapped inside the lift as it malfunctioned and then plunged from the seventh floor of the building while other residents were trying to rescue him. Surange sustained severe injuries in the incident and died during treatment the following day, December 7.

According to police, the FIR was registered on March 28 based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother. Initial findings suggest that the lift had developed a technical fault and got stuck between the sixth and seventh floors before its cable snapped, leading to the crash.

Surange, a native of Buldhana, was residing in the society with his wife and was on his way to work when the incident took place.

Following a preliminary probe, police have booked the society’s chairman, secretary and individuals responsible for lift maintenance. A total of 11 persons have been named in the case.

Charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including causing death by negligence and endangering life, have been invoked. Further investigation is in progress.
