Pune: Increase In Hapus Mango Supply Post Gudi Padwa Leads To Price Drop; Prices Drop By Rs 300 – Rs 600 Per Dozen
Market Yard, 2nd April 2025: Following the Gudi Padwa festival, the arrival of Hapus (Alphonso) mangoes at Pune’s Market Yard has significantly increased. The daily supply, which ranged between 1,000 to 2,000 crates last week, has now surged to 4,000 to 5,000 crates. However, with the post-festival decline in demand, mango prices have started to drop.
Compared to the previous week, the price of Hapus mangoes has fallen by ₹300 to ₹600 per dozen, depending on the quality. In the retail market, a dozen mangoes are currently being sold for ₹700 to ₹1,200, whereas last week, prices ranged from ₹1,000 to ₹1,800 per dozen.
This year, unpredictable weather conditions have impacted the mango yield in the Konkan region, leading to an estimated 40% reduction in production compared to normal levels. The initial flowering phase saw a lower yield, resulting in limited arrivals at the start of the season. Traditionally, the Gudi Padwa festival marks a peak in mango supply, but this year, arrivals were initially lower, increasing only after the festival.
While cloudy conditions have developed across Maharashtra, traders have indicated that this does not pose an immediate threat to the mango crop. However, concerns remain over potential storms and heavy rainfall, which could lead to widespread fruit drop, further reducing supply. The availability of mangoes in the market in the coming weeks is expected to depend largely on weather conditions, according to market experts.
