Pune: Indian Army To Aid 75 Government Schools Under Southern Command Area

Pune, 6th January 2022: The Southern Command of the Indian Army has launched an extensive outreach program with selected schools. 75 Government and Government aided schools were selected wherein voluntary activities were carried out today.

Students and faculty members of 30 Army Public Schools reached out to the selected schools and carried out a wide range of activities including provision of books, stationery, reading material, medical camp by Army doctors, Yoga sessions, physical education classes and sports competitions. This initiative was carried out under the Vidyanjali Scheme of the Union Government, where government schools would be connected to various volunteers such as young professionals, civil servants and defence personnel.

In Pune military station, Ghorpadi Village High School was selected under the scheme. An event was organised at the school to mark the inauguration of the program with the presence of Lt. Gen. Manjit Kumar, Chief of Staff of Southern Command, alongside various other defence personnel. Lt. Gen. Kumar spoke of the importance of ensuring a law-abiding and honest citizenry to help in the development of the nation. He also appreciated the commendable work carried out by the school.

The outreach program will continue throughout the year and will assist in bolstering the quality of education and the amenities of the school.
