Pune: Indian Government Grants Patent for Advanced Rainwater Harvesting System; Patented Model Promises Groundwater Revival

Pune, 21st February 2025: In a significant breakthrough for sustainable water management, the Indian government has granted and published a patent for a newly developed “Rainwater and Wastewater Harvesting System model”. This model, designed after extensive research and analysis, has successfully undergone multiple levels of evaluation by the Patent Office before receiving official approval.
The pilot project for this model was implemented at Subhash Baburao Kul College in Kedgaon, Daund Taluka, where it is fully operational. The system has already contributed to a significant rise in groundwater levels in the surrounding areas. The project’s success has encouraged further plans to expand its implementation across various locations, aiming to enhance groundwater recharge and promote sustainable water conservation.
The research for this project was carried out with key contributions from Dr. Ashok Divekar, Head of the Geography Department at Subhash Baburao Kul College, and Dr. Rajesh Survase, Professor of Geography at Eknath Sitaram Divekar College, Varvand. Their expertise in geography and hydrogeology played a crucial role in developing the model. The patent for groundwater revival has been granted under the names of Adv. Rahul Subhash Kool, Dr. Rajesh Bhaskar Survase, and Dr. Ashok Bhagwan Divekar.
This patented system marks a major step toward combating water scarcity and drought conditions by ensuring effective rainwater harvesting and wastewater management. Researchers behind the project believe that widespread adoption of this model could bring long-term benefits for water conservation in drought-prone regions.
