Pune: Industrial Court Orders General Motors To Pay 50% Salary To 1086 Laid Off Employees

Pimpri, 11th January 2022: General Motors India Pvt. Ltd. has been ordered by the Industrial Court to pay 50% salary per month to all 1086 workers at the Talegaon plant.

General Motors India Pvt. Ltd. has announced that it has sold its plant at Talegaon to Great Wall Motors. The company also announced that no employees of the company would be hired in the new company and they would be given voluntary retirement. But the workers demanded a job and the amount of voluntary retirement has not been accepted by any of the union members.

Therefore, the company first sought permission from the Maharashtra government to close the industry, but the government refused, so the company laid off the workers.

The worker’s union has filed a complaint in the Pune Industrial Court alleging that the lay-off was illegal.

In the complaint, an interim order was filed seeking payment of monthly wages to the workers and restraining the company from transferring their 300 acres of land.

Member of Industrial Court SR Tamboli, after hearing the views of both the parties, said that the cut was illegal and ordered that all the 1086 workers should be paid 50% of their monthly salary till the decision of the complaint is taken.
