Pune: Internet Cable Wire Mishap on Tilak Road Leaves Ex-ACP Injured, FIR Filed

Swargate, 16th April 2025: A retired assistant commissioner of police (ACP), aged 68, suffered multiple injuries after a loose cable wire allegedly belonging to an internet service provider became entangled in his motorcycle handle, causing him to lose control and crash near Hirabaug Chowk on Tilak Road on Monday morning.
The incident took place around 10am when the former officer, Arvind Ramchandra Patil, was returning to his residence in Bibvewadi.
“I had just passed the Hirabaug traffic signal when the right handlebar of my motorcycle got caught in a hanging cable. The front wheel lifted off the ground, and I lost balance,” Patil recounted. “The bike skidded and I hit the road hard. I injured my shoulder, leg, waist, and my right-hand ring finger, which needed stitches.”
Patil further added that a bystander, Mahesh Walse-Patil, rushed to help him, while retired police inspector Dattaray Temghare and his son Dhariyasheel later took him to a private hospital on Pune-Satara Road. Doctors reportedly told him that the nerves in his injured finger were damaged.
Swargate Police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Senior Inspector Yuvraj Nandre confirmed that the hanging cable belonged to a private internet service provider. “After inspecting the scene, we found that the cable was not properly secured. The fire brigade team moved it aside by tying it to a nearby tree,” he said.
A formal complaint has been registered against the cable contractor, the concerned government contractor, and their staff under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety), 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“We have also written to the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Tilak Road ward office, seeking details about the responsible parties. Strict action will be taken against those whose negligence caused the accident,” Nandre added.
