Pune: IT Company Woman Chased And Molested While Returning From Work At Night, Accused Traced After 40 Days

Mundhwa, 11th June 2021: After a thorough probe over 40 days, the officials from Mundhwa police station, under Pune city police, have arrested a man who had allegedly chased and molested a woman who was returning from work in the wee hours of April 29.

Police said that the accused is a habitual criminal with six previous cases including four related to molestation. The accused has been identified as Yash Deepak Dadar (26), a resident of Galandenagar in Vadgaonsheri.

According to police, the 27-year-old woman worked at an IT company. After work, she was returning home on a two-wheeler around 3.40 am on April 29 when the accused started chasing her. He followed her from Sainath Nagar chowk on the Kharadi Bypass and chased till her housing society in Keshavnagar, about three km distance. She had increased the speed of her two-wheeler and fell down near the society. The accused tried to remove her clothes. He fled after she raised an alarm.

The woman informed her family members and they lodged a complaint with Mundhwa police station. An FIR was registered on the same day for offences under sections 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) and 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“While investigating the case, our team scanned footage of CCTVs in Mundhwa, Kharadi, Sainath Nagar and Yerwada. Based on technical analysis of call detail records, policemen Mahesh Pathak and Dinesh Rane zeroed in on the accused. He was detained today. His two-wheeler used in the crime was also seized. Dadar has been arrested now after his role was established in the crime”, said Senior Police Inspector Sampatrao Bhosale, in-charge of Mundhwa police station.

“The accused Dadar is a habitual criminal. There are six cases registered at Yerwada police station against him in the past which includes four molestation cases. In two out of four cases, victims were minor girls. There is also one theft case and an attempt to murder case registered against him”, Inspector Bhosale informed.

The investigation was carried out under the guidance of the Additional Commissioner of Police (East region) Namdev Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Namrata Patil, ACP (Hadapsar Division) Kalyanrao Vidhate and Senior Police Inspector Sampatrao Bhosale.

The team included Police Inspector (Crime) Vijaykumar Shinde, Detection Branch’s API Vijay Chandan,  ASI Avinash Marathe and police personnel Dinesh Rane, Mahesh Pathak, Datta Vibhute, Nana Bhandurge, Bharat Ukirde, Nilesh Palve and Swapnali Amle.
