Pune: Leopards Seen Near Hinjawadi Causing Panic And Fear In Villagers

Hinjawadi, 12th June 2021: Two leopards were seen in Nere Kasarsai village near Hinjawadi, villagers said.

They said that the leopards were seen on the sugarcane farm near Sant Tukaram Sugar Factory. Also, they have killed eight chickens of farmer Hanmant Paygude from Nere. There have been incidents of these leopards going after dogs and also people travelling at night.

On Friday (11th June), Kishor Balkawde saw the leopard sitting on the compound near a sugarcane farm. The villagers have informed the forest department regarding these leopards and they have taken the prints of their claws from the place.

Sarpanch Dattatraya Jadhav said that these incidents have caused panic in the villagers and “we have demanded that these leopards should be caught before causing any more harm to the villagers.”

Forest officers claimed that the permission to catch leopards will have to be taken from Nagpur Headquarters; hence, on the backdrop of these incidents, forest department officials are going to spread awareness in these fear-stricken villages.
