Pune: ITI Student Stabbed to Death by Classmate on Campus Terrace in Ambegaon, Accused Held
Pune, 6th June 2026: A 23-year-old student was allegedly stabbed to death by his classmate at an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Gonwadi village of Ambegaon taluka in Pune district, in an incident that has sent shockwaves through the educational campus.
The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Santosh Sakhare (23), a resident of Chinchpur in Dharur taluka of Beed district. He was a first-year student at the ITI. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Ameya Bhikaji Kokare (19), a fellow student from the same class.
According to preliminary information, Saurabh and Ameya had gone to sleep on the terrace of the institute building on Friday night. Sometime around midnight, an argument allegedly broke out between the two. The exact reason for the dispute is yet to be established.
Police said the argument escalated, following which Ameya allegedly attacked Saurabh with a sharp knife. Saurabh sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to excessive blood loss during treatment.
After receiving information about the incident, a team from the Ghodegaon police station rushed to the institute, conducted a spot inspection and took the accused into custody.
Investigators are probing the motive behind the murder and are examining whether there was any prior animosity between the two students or whether the attack was committed in a fit of rage. Police said the accused has been arrested and further legal proceedings are underway.
The incident has created panic among students and residents in the area, while raising concerns about safety and security within educational institutions. Police said further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
