Pune: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Protests in Kondhwa Against Pahalgam Terror Attack

Kondhwa, 25th April 2025: In a strong condemnation of the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 28 tourists including two from Pune, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind organized a protest in the Kondhwa area of Pune on Friday. The demonstration took place outside Konark Mall, where participants raised slogans such as “Down with terrorists” and “Down with Pakistan”, expressing collective outrage and grief.
As part of the protest, members of the Muslim community and civil society paid heartfelt tributes to the victims of the attack. The protest aimed to denounce terrorism and promote national unity in the face of growing extremist threats.
Addressing the gathering, Qari Idris, president of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Pune unit, made a fervent appeal to the central government. “We demand that the terrorists behind this heinous act be given the death penalty. Such acts must never be allowed to happen again,” he said.
Calling the attack un-Islamic, Idris emphasized that terrorism has no place in religion. “Our religion teaches that killing one innocent person is akin to killing all of humanity. Those who kill innocent civilians can never be considered true followers of Islam,” he said.
Idris also raised questions about the security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir, asking how such a large-scale infiltration could occur. “Our question to the government is—how did these terrorists manage to cross the border and attack so easily? What was the state of the local security system?” he asked.
Highlighting the potential for communal discord, Idris warned that the attack may have been orchestrated to provoke tensions between different religious communities. “Several things in our country today are being divided on religious lines. This attack appears to be another attempt to spark discord,” he added.
The Jamiat also appealed to the government to provide comprehensive support to the families of those killed. “We demand that the government help the victims’ families in every possible way—emotionally, financially, and socially,” said Idris.
The protest ended with a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack, as citizens and community leaders stood in solidarity against terrorism and violence.
