Pune: Journalist Among Two Arrested For Demanding Rs 15 Lakh Extortion From Shiv Sena Corporator

Chakan, 14th September 2021: Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested two persons including a journalist for allegedly demanding Rs 15 lakh extortion from a Shiv Sena corporator.

The incident took place between September 4 and September 12 at the corporator’s office at Savatamali Chowk.

A case has been filed against Former Deputy Sarpanch Pritam Shankarsing Pardeshi, Sangita Wankhede, Kantilal Savita Shinde, Gitanjali Bhasme, Kalpesh Anantrao Bhoi (49), Manda Jogdand, Kunal Raut, Sangita Naikare, Pranit (full name not known).

The 41-year-old corporator filed his complaint to the Chakan police station on Monday. Following his complaint, the police arrested journalist Kalpesh Anantrao Bhoi and Kunal Raut on Monday night.

According to police, the accused and other activists had conspired to defame a woman and send her to Chakan Police Station to lodge a false complaint against the corporator. They blackmailed and demanded Rs 15 lakh to settle the case. After compromise, the amount was brought down to Rs five lakh. The accused repeatedly asked for money for the treatment of the complainant woman.

All the incidents of demanding money have been captured on CCTV in the corporator’s office. The corporator has handed over the CCTV and WhatsApp chats to the police.

Under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Ashok Rajput of Chakan Police Station, Assistant Police Inspector Prakash Rathod, and Police Sub-Inspector Vijay Jagdale are conducting further investigations.
