Pune: Kalyani Nagar Residents Raise Alarm Over Traffic Chaos on East Avenue
Kalyani Nagar, 25 March 2026: Residents of Kalyani Nagar have highlighted growing traffic problems on East Avenue, particularly in front of Silver Oak Society, citing illegal parking, wrong-side driving, and misuse of footpaths as recurring issues that compromise road safety and daily commuting.
According to local residents, vehicles continue to park along stretches clearly marked with No Parking signs, causing severe road narrowing, especially during peak hours. The congestion forces motorists to navigate through limited space, increasing travel delays and frustration.
Compounding the problem, some drivers reportedly use the wrong side of the road and even encroach upon footpaths, putting pedestrians—including children and senior citizens—at significant risk. Residents warn that blocked roads can also hinder emergency services, delaying the movement of ambulances and fire brigade vehicles.
Residents Speak Out
Monica S, a resident of Kalyani Nagar, said, “It has become extremely difficult to commute through East Avenue near Silver Oak Society, especially during peak hours. Despite clear no-parking zones, vehicles are continuously parked on both sides, narrowing the road. People driving on the wrong side to bypass traffic is creating dangerous situations. We request immediate and strict action from traffic authorities to restore discipline and ensure smooth movement.”
Daily commuter Haresh Bharwani added, “The congestion is largely due to indiscipline. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones create bottlenecks, and others try to escape by driving on the wrong side. Residents are not asking for anything extraordinary, just basic enforcement of existing rules. Regular monitoring and strict penalties could significantly improve safety.”
Call for Action
Residents have urged Pune Traffic Police to intervene promptly. Key demands include:
Strict enforcement of No Parking zones.
Penal action against wrong-side driving.
Ensuring footpaths remain clear for pedestrian use.
Regular monitoring to maintain traffic discipline and safeguard road users.
The community has requested immediate attention from authorities to address the situation before it escalates further, emphasizing that enforcement of existing rules is essential to ensure the safety and convenience of residents and commuters alike.
