Pune: Kasarsai Dam Draws Crowds, But Reckless Tourist Stunts Raise Safety Concerns

Hinjawadi, 27th July 2026: Reckless behaviour by a section of tourists at the popular Kasarsai Dam near Hinjawadi has raised serious concerns over visitor safety and law and order, with locals demanding stricter police action against those indulging in dangerous stunts and public nuisance.

The Kasarsai Dam area, located on the border of Mulshi and Maval talukas, has been witnessing a heavy influx of visitors following continuous monsoon rains that have transformed the reservoir and surrounding hills into a major tourist attraction. However, the growing crowds have also led to incidents of hooliganism, with some tourists entering the dam waters to perform risky stunts, creating loud disturbances and engaging in inappropriate behaviour, causing inconvenience to families and other visitors.

Residents said some tourists are risking their lives by entering the swollen reservoir to shoot social media reels and take photographs despite the rising water levels. They fear such acts could result in serious accidents if left unchecked.

The issue has also revived concerns over jurisdiction, as the dam lies on the boundary of Mulshi and Maval talukas. Locals allege that ambiguity over enforcement is being exploited by some visitors and businesses, making it difficult to maintain discipline in the area.

Citizens have urged the police and district administration to increase patrolling, enforce safety measures and take strict action against those violating rules to prevent any untoward incidents during the ongoing monsoon season.

“We appeal to tourists to enjoy the beauty of nature responsibly and avoid unnecessary risks. Hooliganism and dangerous stunts will not be tolerated. Visitors must ensure that their actions do not cause inconvenience to others and should strictly follow safety norms. Strict action will be taken against those found violating the rules,” said Vishal Patil, Senior Police Inspector, Shirgaon Police Station, Maval.
