Pune: Katraj-Kondhwa Road To Be Repaired And Widened To 50-Meters
Katraj, 15th February 2023: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has resumed the traffic improvement works on the Katraj-Kondhwa road, which has been held up for four years due to land acquisition issues.
The road is a crucial link for heavy vehicles travelling from Solapur, Marathwada, Karnataka, Telangana and other areas, en route to Mumbai.
The project will see the existing road, which spans 3.5km, widened to 50 meters by removing encroachments, repairing the road, and asphalting the side lanes on both sides. Additionally, dividers will be added to punctures to improve the flow of traffic.
The project was supposed to make the 3.5 km road 84 meters wide, and the Bhoomi Pujan for the same was conducted four years ago, but it remained incomplete due to unoccupied land, with land acquisition expected to cost around Rs 700 crore. To tackle the issue, PMC has decided to make a 50-meter road, and landowners will receive Rs 200 crore in compensation, but the process may take time. Hence, PMC has decided to improve the existing road for now.
The works are being carried out in coordination with the traffic police, with PMC’s Additional Commissioner, Vikas Dhakne, and Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, Vijay Magar, inspecting the Katraj-Kondhwa road and discussing changes to transportation. The project will be completed in the next 15 days, and facilities will be provided every 200 meters for cars to take a detour, allowing heavy vehicles to travel smoothly.
Local citizens are welcoming the move to repair and widen the road, but some are concerned that the project has been delayed for four years. The joint inspection with the Traffic Police has approved the closure of punctures by putting dividers on the road, which is expected to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic.
In conclusion, the traffic improvement works on the Katraj-Kondhwa road will improve the flow of traffic for heavy vehicles and reduce congestion on the road. The project has been held up for four years, but PMC has finally taken the initiative to repair and widen the road to 50 meters. However, the issue of land acquisition still looms, and it is hoped that the PMC will quickly occupy the remaining land to complete the project.
