Kondhwa, 24th October 2023: The Katraj-Kondhwa road, a crucial route for facilitating traffic flow in south Pune, has been grappling with severe congestion. To mitigate this issue, the decision to widen the road was made.

However, the project had hit a roadblock due to land acquisition challenges. Responding to the plea from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), landowner and entrepreneur Prakash Dhariwal generously relinquished possession of the land, without any conditions, in exchange for Transferable Development Rights (TDR).

Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakane confirmed the clearance of the Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project, which has already commenced.

The Katraj-Kondhwa road widening initiative encountered limited enthusiasm from citizens regarding land acquisition. Nonetheless, the PMC persisted in its efforts to collaborate with property owners. The acquisition of 60 gunthas of land had been pending negotiations with Prakash Dhariwal, which have now reached a successful conclusion. This willingness to provide land unconditionally in exchange for TDR has significantly resolved the land acquisition conundrum. The PMC, having completed the necessary paperwork to acquire the land, initiated construction work immediately.

The state government allocated a fund of Rs 200 crore for the construction of the Katraj-Kondhwa road, which had faced delays due to land acquisition hurdles in recent years. This has led to traffic congestion and accidents on this route. Consequently, the PMC maintained a constant dialogue with landowners to secure the necessary land. Many of them have expressed their willingness to contribute land to the project.
Notably, industrialist Prakash Dhariwal owns a significant parcel of land required for the stretch between Katraj Chowk and Khadi Machine Chowk in Kondhwa, approximately 60 gunthas in size. He promptly agreed to provide the land unconditionally. The PMC not only concluded the formalities for land acquisition but also initiated construction work promptly.

An alternative route will be established from Kanha Hotel Chowk to Khadi Machine Chowk to relieve traffic congestion on the road. The ongoing discussions with the remaining landowners for land acquisition are yielding positive responses, which bodes well for the timely completion of the Katraj-Kondhwa road.
