Pune: Kidnapped Medical Store Owner Rescued, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Appeal To Complain Against Extortion

Wakad, 17th June 2021: Six persons walked into a medical store at Spandan Hospital near Dange Chowk around 6 pm on Tuesday. Identifying themselves as policemen, they checked the Medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kit and told the medical store owner that an FIR under section 302 will be registered and he will be imprisoned in Yerwada Central Jail.

They took him away in a car and asked the doctor there to arrange for Rs six lakh ransom. However, the doctor contacted Police Inspector (Crime) Santosh Patil of Wakad police station who told him that no police team has been sent to the medical store. Inspector Patil sent Sub-Inspectors Ashok Jagtap and Vijay Velapure to the spot. The kidnappers started fleeing seeing the cops. However, two of them were caught while others managed to escape. The medical owner was rescued and other accused were also arrested later.

Based on a complaint from medical store owner Ashok Beliram Agarwal (53) of Kiwale, an FIR has been registered against  Siddharth Bharat Gaikwad (32), Preetesh Babanrao Landge (30), Rahul Chhagan Londhe (24), Prakash Madhukar Sajgane (31), Kamlesh Rajkumar Bafna (32), Santosh Bapu Oval (28), all residents of Wakad, and Akash Vijay Harkare (27) of Chikhali.

According to police, the arrested accused include Pimpri Chinchwad Tiger Group’s president Gaikwad and vice president Ovhal. Landge is ‘Gram Suraksh Dal’ member while Harakre is ‘Gruhsuraksha Rakshak Dal’. The kidnapping was done at the behest of Bafna who wanted to run the medical store.

Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash has appealed to businessmen to lodge a complaint if anyone is demanding extortion from them.

The investigation in the kidnapping case was carried out under the guidance of DCP (Zone 2) Anand Bhoite, ACP Shrikant Disale and Senior Police Inspector Dr Vivek Muglikar, in-charge of Wakad police station.

The team included Police Inspectors Santosh Patil, Sunil Tonpe, API SM Patil, Abhijit Jadhav, PSI Ashok Jagtap and police personnel Vijay Velapure, Deepak Bhosale, Bapusaheb Dhumal, Raju Kale, Bandu Giri, Vikram Kudal, Vijay Gambhire, Pramod Kadam, Deepak Sable, Suraj Sutar, Tatya Shinde and Kauntey Kharade.
