Pune: KP XI, Snigmay enter semifinals of City Cup 2021 knockout tournament

Pune, 18th November 2021: KP XI and Snigmay FC had easy victories to enter the semifinals of the inaugural City Cup 2021 knockout tournament at the City Sports Arena, Moshi-Pune, on Thursday.

The tournament is being organized by City F.C Pune under the aegis of the Poona District Football Association (PDFA).

In the first quarterfinal, KP XI came from behind to down Blue Stag S.A 4-1.

Both teams went into the break, failing to score. After the breather, Blue Stag took the lead courtesy of an own goal by Kailash Pardeshi (35th). The lead was cancelled out by an own goal from Blue Stag player Aniket Gain (46th) to bring the scores level (1-1).

The game looked like it was headed for the tiebreaker, but KP XI had other ideas thereafter and stepped up the pace to force three goals in a span of 5 minutes to take the match away from their opponents. Alfred Negal (57th) made it 2-1 and a quick brace by Nirmal Chhetri (59th, 60+2) completed the tally.

In the second last 8 match, Snigmay F.C eased past AIYFA 4-0 in a one-sided match. An early strike by Hemraj Hooda (12th) gave Snigmay the early advantage. A brace by Sangram Patil (45th, 55th) took the tally to 3-0 and a 62nd-minute goal by Pratik Sabale completed the tally for Snigmay F.C.
