Pune, 20th March 2025: The Hadapsar police have revealed that lawyer Sahil Dongre, representing Swargate rape case accused Dattatray Gade, was not abducted and assaulted, as he claimed. Instead, preliminary investigations have confirmed that he was injured in a bike accident.
On 18th March, Dongre filed a complaint at the Hadapsar police station, alleging that he was kidnapped by a group of individuals near the Hadapsar bus depot around midnight on 17th March. According to his complaint, the assailants forcibly put him in a vehicle, assaulted him, and later abandoned him at Dive Ghat.
Following the complaint, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde directed Senior Inspector Sanjay Mogle to investigate the case. A police team reviewed CCTV footage and conducted a technical analysis of the incident.
The footage showed Dongre leaving Sagar Bar near the Hadapsar depot around 10 pm with his friend Aniket Maske. Maske later returned home. The analysis confirmed that Dongre was near Divewadi in Dive Ghat between 11:30 pm on 17th March and 18th March.
Meanwhile, Saswad police received a call around 11:30 pm about a bike accident near Hotel Sairup. However, the responding officers were unable to reach the site due to an ongoing fire emergency. Later, a doctor from a Saswad-based ambulance service confirmed that they received a call around midnight and reached the location. However, no injured person was found at the scene.
It was later discovered that Dongre himself called the 108 emergency helpline early in the morning, reporting his accident. He was taken to Saswad Rural Health Center by ambulance for treatment.
The following morning, around 9 am, Dongre filed a complaint at Hadapsar police station, alleging that he had been abducted and assaulted. However, he did not disclose any details about his treatment to the police.
Upon further verification, Hadapsar police admitted Dongre to Sassoon General Hospital. The preliminary investigation concluded that Dongre was not abducted but was indeed injured in a bike accident. The police have stated that further legal action is underway.
