Pune: Lightning Kills Husband, Wife in Baramati; Another Woman Injured

Baramati, 20th September 2021: A couple was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a lightning strike in Baramati taluka at around 5 pm today (Monday).

The three farmers were working in the area of Pandare gorge in Kurnewadi-Sagobachiwadi area.

The deceased have been identified as Balasaheb Bandoba Ghorpade (54) and Sangita Balasaheb Ghorpade (44), residents of Sagobachiwadi, Baramati.

All the three injured farmers were rushed to Baramati town for medical treatment, but Balasaheb and Sangita Ghorpade, both husband and wife, succumbed to their injuries.

The injured woman, Padmini Ghorpade, is undergoing treatment and her condition is stable, the doctor said.

Tehsildar Vijay Patil said, “Ghorpade family has been hit by a huge natural calamity. The government is with their families. The government’s policy is to provide immediate assistance of Rs four lakh each to the relatives of the deceased.”
