Pune, 22nd January 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) health officials are still struggling to persuade residents of Pune to take the booster dose after a protracted wait for the Covishield vaccine. Despite the vaccine supply being increased, Pune’s COVID -19 immunisation participation rates remain low.

Following government regulations, the civic organisation began providing free COVID -19 preventative doses to residents over 18 at the PMC-run immunisation clinics on 15th July 2022. The drive has been slowed due to the lack of Covishield immunisations since December last year.

Additionally, due to the decrease in COVID cases during the preceding few months, the response to the COVID-19 vaccination had already decreased. Just 5.46 lakh individuals (16.39%) of the 33.30 lakh eligible gentry in the city have taken their preventive dosages since the PMC initiated the programme.

According to officials, a bigger portion of 37.21 lakh (111%) people have received their first dosage of the COVID-19 vaccination, while 3.15 lakh (94%) of residents have received their second dose.
