Pune: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Lauds Bombay High Court’s Decision For Bhide Wada

Pune, 16th October 2023: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed his elation over the recent judgment by the Bombay High Court concerning the petition filed regarding Bhide Wada in Pune, hailing it as a significant step towards establishing Bhide Wada as a national monument.
In response to the verdict, Chief Minister Shinde has issued directives to the Pune Collector and Municipal Commissioner, instructing them to expedite the memorial’s development.
Bhide Wada in Pune holds historical significance as the place where Mahatma Jotiba Phule and Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule inaugurated the first school for girls. The building stands as an enduring symbol of inspiration for women. Chief Minister Shinde underscored that the government’s vision is to transform this historical palace into a national monument, allowing future generations to draw inspiration for social work and education.
The occupants of the building had previously filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, contesting the land acquisition for the memorial. However, in a hearing held today, the Bombay High Court ruled in favour of designating the building’s location for the memorial. This verdict has now paved the way for land acquisition, expediting the memorial’s development, as confirmed by Chief Minister Shinde.
Eknath Shinde has been actively monitoring progress on the National Memorial at Bhide Wada, demonstrating his commitment to this noble cause. During last year’s winter session of the legislature held in Nagpur, the Chief Minister convened a special meeting to review the memorial’s progress.
Speaking at an event in Naigaon (Taluka Khandala) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule, Chief Minister Shinde declared that the memorial’s construction would commence promptly once all necessary formalities were completed.
