Pune, 19th December 2023: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar delivered the news to the Maharashtra Assembly today that the General Motors Company, situated in Talegaon, Pune district, has unfortunately ceased operations. However, amidst this downturn, a glimmer of hope arises as Hyundai steps in to take over the reins from General Motors.

Addressing the concerns of workers, particularly those hailing from western Maharashtra, Pawar assured the assembly that the government has accorded special attention to their plight. As a measure of immediate relief, each worker is set to receive a substantial compensation of Rs 25 lakh in cash. This financial assistance is aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by the workforce due to the closure.

Moreover, as part of the transition, Hyundai is poised to absorb a significant number of workers, subject to specific criteria. This move is not only expected to mitigate the impact of unemployment on the affected workforce but also contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.

Pawar underscored the government’s commitment to seeking justice for the affected workers. Efforts are underway to explore avenues that ensure fairness and address the concerns of the workforce impacted by the closure of General Motors.
