Pune: Maharashtra Women’s Commission Committed to Safety of Working Women, Says Rupali Chakankar
Pune, 8th August 2025: Maharashtra State Commission for Women President Rupali Chakankar has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment towards the safety of working women. She said the Commission will ensure proper implementation of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH), across the state.
Speaking at a workshop to raise awareness about the POSH Act, Chakankar said, “It is the responsibility of the establishment administration to provide a safe environment for women at work and to instil positive trust in them. Women should not be afraid to come forward against harassment or misconduct and should file a complaint with the Internal Grievance Redressal Committee. The Internal Grievance Redressal Committee should take women’s complaints seriously, fulfil their social responsibility, and implement the legal processes to ensure justice.”
She continued, saying that there is still a need to create awareness about Internal Grievance Redressal Committees in various establishments. She expressed her belief that the information from this workshop will definitely be useful across workplaces. About 31 % of women in the state are working in various establishments.
“The committee should not only provide information about laws for women but also work to address the problems they face. It should function as an effective medium to deliver justice to women in the workplace. Women’s Commission will fully support this effort,” she added.
