Pune, 8th July 2022: Being away from the city population, villages on hills around Lavasa city lack a quality education system. Most villagers cannot afford to send their children to better schools in distant locations in Pune.

Many parents are not very encouraging to their children in higher studies. Most of the girls have to stop studying after eighth grade as Marathi medium schools in the region do not have higher classes. There is one English medium school run by the Lavasa authority for children from all villages. The huge young population here needs a lot more educational facilities and quality teaching.

Mahatman Foundation, being active in this region since doing food distribution during the pandemic in 2020 did the second drive of notebooks and stationary distribution to students in Bhoini, Kolshi, Ramnagar, Dasve, Mugaon and Dhamnovhal villages yesterday. The school kit had an assorted set of materials such as notebooks, pen, pencil, drawing book, colors, and compass box which varies as per the sections like primary, secondary, and higher secondary.

The spark and excitement in the kids’ eyes were noteworthy. A little good effort can become such great encouragement as a paradigm for bigger impacts on lives by community service.

In the words of Sudhir Adettiwar, the founder of the organization and a geotech engineer and an entrepreneur, “It was through the support of scholarships by organizations like Tata and Birla that I could complete my studies abroad and enjoy the success by hard work today. Hence it is important for people like me to keep up the legacy of such good work. Change the life, if you can, of at least one child for good.”

Following the vision, the foundation also gave scholarship forms to support selected bright minds from underprivileged families for future studies. The aim is to empower every child through education. Mahatman foundation is a non-profit organization set up in 2020 with a vision to advance humanity to greatness by working in the field of education, mentorship, fitness and advanced scientific research.

Lakhs of children lack support from their families to get an education and are dropping out of school. Education is available free of cost in government schools but many children lack the support to get their school equipment.

Poverty-hit parents had no option other than restricting children’s education. Such children are overlooked or discarded from society. These children lack respect and affection. In an age of learning and play, the children are shouldered with responsibilities. Children need support to cope with the competitive world to have a dignified life.

Sam Adettiwar, CEO of Mahatman Foundation doled out educational kits, including notebooks, pens, pencils, drawing books, and colors to more than 50 students in the Rural area of Mulshi taluka. The Foundation aims to encourage deserving and needy students by ensuring such facilities.

“We have distributed the educational kits to poor and needy students in several villages of Mulshi taluka near Lavasa. Earlier we carried out a survey, where we spotted that certain families were not in a position to bear the educational expenses of their children and needed help the kit was distributed in Dhamanovhal, Kolshi, Mugao, Bhoini, Dasve, and Ramnagar Dasave Villages,” said Sam.

Besides this Foundation has also taken up the task of the scholarship program for needy students by giving them mentorship for availing scholarships for higher education.
