Pune: Man Arrested with 1.09 kg Opium Worth Rs 21.8 Lakh in Kondhwa

Kondhwa, 22nd January 2025: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Pune Police arrested a 52-year-old man from Rajasthan and seized 1.09 kg of opium worth ₹21.8 lakh in the Kondhwa area on Monday (20th January). The accused, identified as Nathuram Jivanram Jat, a resident of the Nagaur District of Rajasthan, was caught while allegedly attempting to sell the prohibited opium.
Acting on a tip-off, the anti-narcotics team conducted a patrol in the Kondhwa area where they intercepted Jat, who was carrying a suspicious bag. Upon inspection, the police discovered the opium hidden inside the bag.
A case has been registered against Jat under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. Preliminary investigation revealed that Jat, formerly a furniture worker, had brought the opium from Rajasthan for sale in Pune to make quick money.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ganesh Ingle, both heading the Crime Branch. The anti-narcotics team involved in the arrest included Police Inspector Ulhas Kadam, Assistant Police Inspector Aniket Pote, and Police Constables Dayanand Telange Patil, Sandip Shirke, Vishal Dalvi, Sachin Malve, and Pravin Uttekar.
Police are now investigating to determine if Jat had sold opium to anyone else before his arrest.
