Pune, 18th June 2021: The lockdown is lifted in most parts of Maharashtra. However, popular tourist places are still closed as the second wave is not entirely over yet. Even so, some overzealous tourists go to these places; and in one such incident, a man lost his life due to drowning in Bhimashankar Waterfall.

Bhimashankar has waterfalls that are flocked by tourists during the rainy season. At Kondhwal waterfall, a group of five tourists went near the waterfall. Then, Laxman Sonyabapu Lahare (29), a resident of Shikrapur slipped into the waterfall. He drowned and died on the spot.

Yesterday, locals and Police with the help of NDRF tried to find the body of Laxman till late at night. L.G. Thate of Ghodegaon police Station was there with Dipak Kashid and Jayram Vaje.

Kondhwal waterfall is not open for tourists hence locals feel that police should always keep an eye on it. The same type of incidents have happened before so there is a need for a more robust system to stop these incidents from happening.
