Pune Man Ends Life Due to Illegal Money Lender’s Relentless Harassment
Pune, 18th August 2023: A distressing incident unfolded in Kirkitwadi, Sinhagad Road area, as a man took his own life after enduring incessant harassment from an unlicensed money lender. The victim has been identified as Nilesh Jangam, a resident of Kirkitwadi. The ordeal prompted his wife to file a formal complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR against three individuals at the Haveli police station.
Nilesh Jangam’s tragic end shines a spotlight on the dark underbelly of illegal money lending practices prevalent in the area. An FIR has been lodged against Suhas Dandekar, Govind Maruti Bhople, and Varsha Govind Bhople for their alleged involvement in the unlawful act of money lending.
According to the details revealed in the complaint, Nilesh Jangam’s friend, Govind Bhople, had suggested they embark on a joint business venture. In pursuit of this venture, Bhople obtained a loan of ₹3.5 lakh from Dandekar, who was operating as an unlicensed money lender. However, instead of utilizing the funds for their intended purpose, Bhople frittered away the money.
Subsequently, when Jangam urged Bhople to repay the borrowed sum, both Bhople and his wife resorted to evasive tactics. The situation escalated when Dandekar, the unlicensed lender, initiated a campaign of harassment against Jangam in order to reclaim the loaned funds.
In a poignant turn of events, a note penned by Nilesh Jangam prior to his tragic decision has been seized by the police. It appears that he was left with no recourse but to take the extreme step due to the persistent abuse and threats he faced from Dandekar.
Officer Anmol Mittal of the Haveli police station is providing guidance to PSI Sheetal Thembe as she leads the investigation into this heart-wrenching incident.
